ABOUT US
United Canadian Tamils Association (UCTA) is a registered non-profit organization registered in the province of Manitoba. Our main objective is to assist, support, and resettle Tamil refugees around the world who are suffering as a result of the war crimes in Sri Lanka through community sponsorship. We are determined to provide the necessary access and resources available to Tamils in Canada through legal and humanitarian means.
Who We Are
War, persecution, and instability have driven the number of refugees to historic highs. Rather than offer protection, many countries have created barriers, leaving many of today’s refugees without support and access to resources.
Tamils born in Sri Lanka have faced countless atrocities such as poverty, violence, and genocide, before they were forced to flee due to the outbreak of the civil war in 1983. Most had sought asylum in Germany and due to the draconian refugee protection laws in that country, they were looking to migrate to more free and secure place.
United Canadian Tamils Association was formed in response to the rising concerns of humanitarian and refugee crisis Tamils endure in different countries around the world. United Canadian Tamils Association was founded in Canada as a non-profit organization, committed to assisting and supporting sponsorship groups to welcome and resettle Tamil refugees in Canada.
OUR VISION
Our vision is to promote and create long-lasting solutions for the Tamil refugee population. We are committed to actively engage with Tamil refugees in accessing government programs, and also partner with like-minded organizations or individuals to promote positive changes in the Tamil community.
Our Focus: Tamils & Refugee Crisis
As a result of the civil war in Sri Lanka, millions of Tamils are displaced in over 61 countries around the world. They are forced to live in undersupplied refugee camps, while some risk being incarcerated. While temporary relief is provided through these camps, it is not a long-term solution, especially for women and children. Healthcare, education, food, and basic necessities are compromised under these living conditions.
Our primary mission is to help these Tamil refugees through Canada’s programs for refugees and asylum seekers. Are projects are solution-focused and we work with many stakeholders to provide support through legal and humanitarian efforts. We are currently working with hundreds of families in various refugee camps in Asian countries to support the refugee crisis.
We have been at the forefront advocating for Tamils around the world, by rescuing Tamils against abject poverty. As part of our strategy to alleviate hardships among Tamil refugees, we are fully engaged in sponsorship programs to Canada.
OUR MISSION
United Canadian Tamil Association (UCTA) is a non-profit organization that is committed to supporting refugees who have been displaced by violence, conflict, and persecution, so they can recover and rebuild their lives. In addition to providing Tamil refugee resettlement assistance, our missions is to raise awareness to the ongoing civil and humanitarians crisis Tamils face around the world, and to advocate for active resolutions to the unfolding disasters.
